I have a system with another company. Can I switch my account to Groupe Vigilance?

Yes, since most alarm systems are compatible with our monitoring centre. However, we’ll need to check a few things before we can proceed with the transfer:

  1. If you’re at the end of a contractual agreement with your current company, we’ll connect your system in the days ahead.
  2. In the rare cases where we cannot electronically reprogram your alarm panel, we’ll replace the system card, at low cost to you, and connect the system to our monitoring centre.

Are Groupe Vigilance security systems connected to a police station?

No. Security systems are connected to the national network of 24-hour monitoring centres. Monitoring centre personnel receive alarm signals and determine the appropriate course of action depending on the situation (alarm validation, dispatching the fire department, police or emergency medical services).

What does the monitoring centre do and where is it?

Groupe Vigilance handles sales, installation, maintenance, and repairs for security system equipment as well as providing after-sales service. The monitoring centre processes and manages the various alarm signals it receives and takes appropriate action in response.

The monitoring centres are located in Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa, and Vancouver. These centres are equipped with the most advanced and specialized remote monitoring technology and a vast fibre-optic network. In the event of an emergency or crisis situation, every centre can back up all other centres, thereby providing you with uninterrupted service, 24/7.

What should I do if I set off a false alarm?

The siren will sound. If the alarm was set off accidentally, stay calm. Enter your code on the keyboard to deactivate the system. Wait roughly one minute and phone the monitoring centre to let us what happened. Use your cell phone if you have one. Otherwise, an operator will initiate the established response procedure.

What should I do when I call an operator at the monitoring centre?

  1. Provide your location’s main phone number
  2. Identify yourself using your PIN
  3. State your name
  4. Explain why you are making the call or what caused the alarm

What do the people on my call list have to do?

Whenever your security system is triggered, an operator dials the main phone number for the protected location. If there is no answer or if the person who answers is unable to provide the valid PIN, the operator calls the police (according to the established response procedure).

The operator tries to contact a resource person on your call list.

When you plan to be away for a long period, be sure to let your resource persons know. When the resource person arrives at your home, an outdoor check of the premises should be carried out before entering. We strongly recommend waiting for the police to arrive before entering the premises.

To ensure effective response, resource persons should reside in proximity to the protected location, have keys to the premises, know the code for arming and disarming the syste, and have a pre-set PIN to identify themselves.

Your Groupe Vigilance security advisor can meet with your resource persons to explain their responsibility and show them how to activate and deactivate the security system. We suggest that you review your call list on a regular basis.

Will WaterCop work with my security system or home automation system?

Yes. The WaterCop system is equipped with low-tension auxiliary contacts and can easily be connected to various types of home security systems using low-tension cables (cables not included). Please speak with your home security professional.

How many WaterCop sensors can I use?

Each WaterCop system can encompass an unlimited number of temperature and flood sensors. Sensors are placed near or under washing machines, water heaters, ice makers, dishwashers, humidifiers, sinks, toilets, and any other devices that may cause water leaks.

Can the WaterCop system be installed outdoors?

No. The WaterCop control valve and sensors are designed for indoor use only, including crawl spaces, basements, attics, and other indoor areas.

How much water must be present before a flood sensor sends a signal to the WaterCop system?

Just a few ounces of water is enough to trigger the system if the sensors are placed correctly to detect leaks and puddles. To find out more, watch the video

How can shut off water intake manually using WaterCop?

You can use the control buttons on the WaterCop control interface. Our wall switch (RS100) also allows you to shut off water intake simply by pressing on it (make sure it is installed in a convenient spot)

What happens to WaterCop during a power blackout?

The WaterCop control valve stays in the position it was in when the blackout occurs. By adding an emergency battery-powered surge-proof power bar, the valve can shut off water intake in the event of water damage resulting from a power blackout. You can also manually change the position of the valve if there a power blackout.

Can WaterCop prevent pipes from freezing or bursting?

Though WaterCop cannot prevent pipes from freezing, its low-temperature sensors can monitor the state of your plumbing system. The sensors can monitor the temperature in specific pipes, for example, a pipe connected to an outdoor tap or sprinkler system or pipes in an attic or crawl space. When the ambient temperature drops below 3°C (+/– 2°C), the sensor alerts the WaterCop system to shut off water intake, thereby preventing flooding due to bursting pipes. So, while the system does not prevent pipes from freezing, it does help to prevent flooding if pipes should burst.
